Minor Threads: Editor's Letter
Welcome to Minor Threads. This is a space where journalism, storytelling, and culture intersect — where facts and feelings, reporting and reflection, memory and meaning weave together.
For as long as I can remember, stories have been my compass. They’ve guided me through newsrooms from coast to coast, from the buzzing streets of New York City to the quiet resilience of small towns in the South, Pacific Northwest, and Midwest. Every city, every community, every interview has added another thread to the fabric of how I see the world—and how I tell its stories.
My career in journalism has never been about chasing headlines alone; it’s been about finding the humanity within them. I’ve sat in living rooms with families whose lives were forever changed by the news of the day. I’ve walked through neighborhoods that refused to be defined by statistics or stereotypes. I’ve learned that storytelling is less about speaking and more about listening to the people who often go unheard.
Those experiences, spanning numerous places and perspectives, have shaped me into a writer and communicator who values nuance, empathy, and truth. Whether reporting for a national network or writing an intimate essay, I’ve carried the same belief with me: stories have the power to connect us.
In a world that feels frayed and divided, I want to offer a place that reminds us of what still connects us. Embark on the journey with me as I introduce you to people you may not know, reintroduce you to some whom you are likely familiar with, and provide a space where you can escape the outside noise.
Furthermore, it’s here you’ll find essays rooted in my experiences as a journalist, storyteller, and lover of food and culture. Some weeks, that might mean a behind-the-scenes look at how newsrooms decide what’s “worth” covering. At other times, it might be a personal essay drawn from one of my work-in-progress pieces waiting to be published, or a recipe paired with the story of how food carries memory, identity, and serves as a language that connects us all. And at times, it may be a cultural conversation with voices I admire who are also trying to make sense of this moment.
This new space is an evolution of that belief—a digital home where journalism meets reflection, and where conversation meets culture. Here, I’ll share stories that bridge the personal and the public, the local and the universal. It’s about who we are, how we live, and what we learn along the way.
What ties it all together are the threads — the small but powerful connections between people, places, and ideas. I hope that when you read Minor Threads, you’ll feel both informed and inspired, reminded that our lives, no matter how different, share a fabric.
Thank you for being here at the start of this journey. I can’t wait to see how these threads connect us all, and where they can lead us.
Until the next thread, stay woven in!
